Palitha Senarathna is a well known poet in Sri Lanka, a son of two veteran Sri Lankan poets in Colombo era. His father was Balagalle Ranjith Siriwardane and mother Srimathi Senaratna.
Palitha has published number of books in Sinhala language on his own. Namely හයිකු මොහොත (haiku moment), අකුරු නැති කවි ( poems with no letters) , Lonely Haiku ( හුදෙකලා හයිකු), හයිකු හදවත ( heart of haiku) and Haiku Wings (හයිකු පියාපත්)
Founder and the chairman of Haiku Association of Sri Lanka, following the Japanese traditional haiku style keeping with the very essence of it. He is the only educator in Sri Lanka who teaches haiku poetry.
With his leadership, he runs haiku circles with the intention of teaching haiku principles via recorded lessons. Haiku circles commenced during the pandemic time and there are over hundred Sri Lankan students from all over the world got connected online to learn this special from of poetry today. The students of the haiku circles have already showcased their talents and won many awards to date while contributing their haiku to various international journals, anthologies and even publishing their own books under the guidance of their guru.
The haiku book in English with Sinhala translations ‘Sri Lankan Haiku - An anthology of haiku poetry’ published in 2021 was the first attempt to exhibit Sri Lankan talent to the lovers of haiku poetry in Sri Lanka and overseas. The book was launched at Martin Wickramasinghe Museum, Koggala, in 2022 infront of the students and many distinguished guests.
